The dossier

Meet El Hefe: The PR Mastermind of Cheddar Gorge

Appearance:
Meet El Hefe, the smooth-talking Toe Monster who keeps everything under control! With his distinctive panda-like fur — white with dark patches (often with a subtle dark blue sheen) — El Hefe stands out from the crowd. Unlike most Toe Monsters, he’s relatively slim, but his broad chest and shoulders give him a confident, commanding presence. His large, fluffy bunny ears twitch constantly, always listening for the latest rumours. You’ll often spot him with a mobile phone pressed to his ear and a tennis racket in hand, effortlessly multitasking.

Personality:
El Hefe is the ultimate professional… or at least, he likes everyone to think so. As Head of PR for the Toe Monsters, it’s his job to keep their existence under wraps and make sure any stories about missing toes are quickly “explained away.” Calm under pressure and always one step ahead, El Hefe can talk his way out of almost anything.

He’s charming, clever, and just a little bit smug. Whether he’s calming down panicked villagers or spinning a new story for the press, El Hefe never seems flustered. In fact, he often handles crises while casually playing swingball — because why not?

Cave Life:
El Hefe’s cave is less of a home and more of a command centre. Multiple screens line the walls, constantly showing rolling news, football matches, and tennis tournaments. One screen is almost always tuned to a Spanish news channel, just in case international rumours start spreading.

A small gym sits in the corner — El Hefe believes staying sharp physically helps him stay sharp mentally. Nearby, his swingball setup is rarely still, as he practises his shots while taking important calls.

Subtle nods to his favourite football team, Tottenham Hotspur, can be found throughout the cave — a scarf here, a badge there — though he insists he supports them purely for “professional reasons.”

Fun Fact:
El Hefe once successfully convinced an entire news crew that a Toe Monster sighting was actually “a very unusual dog with excellent posture.” The story aired nationwide… and nobody questioned it.

Warning:
If you hear someone calmly talking on the phone while a tennis ball whizzes past your head, it’s probably El Hefe handling another “situation.”

If he notices you, don’t panic — just nod, smile, and agree with whatever he says. Before you know it, you’ll be convinced you didn’t see anything at all… and your toes? Well… best not think about those.

Habitat survey

Inside El Hefe’s cave

Somewhere in Cheddar Gorge — the exact spot is a secret, and the cave has an inconvenient habit of not being where it was — is where El Hefe lives. The survey photograph below was taken quickly, and the surveyor did not stay for tea.
